Why Support the Bond and Override?
Failing to renew the commitment to our schools will have serious consequences. Repairs and renovations will not be done. Critical supplies will not be purchased. The District will need to explore more expensive alternatives to complete the work or most likely, go without. In the end, taxpayers will pay more for the repairs, renovations, and educational supplies.
The state barely funds the basics of an education. Given the budget challenges facing state government right now, it is a certainty that school funding will be greatly reduced. We must take responsibilities for our schools and support them locally.
Madison Elementary School District is known as one of the best school districts in Arizona. This benefits the entire community, not just those with school-age children.
Here’s why:
-
Communities with excellent schools are more attractive to homebuyers. Madison schools improve your property value.
-
Good schools attract quality jobs. Businesses looking to relocate or expand existing facilities want good schools for their employee families.
-
Good jobs require people who are smart, well-educated, and familiar with the newest technologies.
-
Investing in our schools creates a knowledgeable workforce.
-
Providing students with state-of-the-art learning tools prepares them to be competitive.
-
High-value businesses look for communities that produce a knowledge-based labor pool.
-
This creates good jobs and a healthy economy.
Other communities see the advantage of quality schools, and they want to compete with us to attract business investments and raise their community real estate values. This is why bond and overrides have been approved in:
- Tempe
- Chandler
- Scottsdale
- Laveen
- Fountain Hills
- Creighton
- Glendale Union
- Alhambra
We think voters will support a bond and override that represents a reasonable and prudent investment in the future of our entire community.
We are asking voters to support a renewal of a capital override that was approved in 2004. Renewing the override merely maintains our existing commitments. It will not result in new taxes.
